Huawei Nova 5T was introduced in August 2019. It was yet another phone from the Nova series. The mobile manufacturing company has never stopped accelerating in growth ever since the company was banned from doing business in the US. Skepticism showed all over the brand when Trump announced that the tech giant can no longer do business with an American company.

For a company that has depended on Google’s Android for years, only to wake up in an era where it is forced to build its own operating system. It appeared an impossible task, but Huawei turned things around putting a smile on the faces of its loyal customers.

Nova 5T is a sleek smartphone which takes quality pictures.

The year 2020 promised to be exciting for Huawei enthusiasts and I must admit it lived up to the expectation as the mobile phone giants introduced another baby from the Nova series, Huawei Nova 7i, which will be reviewed in my subsequent post.

Huawei Nova 5T specs

The Huawei Nova 5T is one of the few mid-range smartphones with a premium feel. The phone seems pretty identical to the Honor 20. The Nova 5T features 6.26-inch punch-hole HD display of the selfie camera.

It has 32MP (wide) front-facing camera and a quad-camera set up to 48 MP (wide), 16MP (ultra wide), 2MP (micro) and 2MP (depth) rare camera. The device features a Full HD+ (1080×2340 pixels) with 412ppi density.

The Nova 5T detail a fingerprint sensor which also doubles as the power button mounted on the right side of the phone. The design reminds me of the Galaxy S10e. The phones use HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset, which is the exact chipset used in one of their flagship, P30 Pro. This explains why Nova 5T performs better than most mid-range smartphones.

Nova 5T runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) operating system based on EMIUI. The phone is powered by Octa-core (2.6 GHz, Dual-core, Cortex A76 + 1.8 GHz, Quad-Core, Cortex A55). It has 8GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage with no option for SD card Support.

Nova 5T comes with 22.5W supper fast adaptor with USB type-C cable which supports fast-changing. The adaptor can power the phone from 0-60℅ battery within 30minutes.

The non-renewable Li-Po 3750 batter is not so great compared to what we’ve seen in other mid-range smartphones but at least it isn’t terrible. My disappointment with the device is how Huawei ditched the 3.5 headphone jack port.

The Nova 5T is a great phone, but it offers nothing different from the Honor 20. The Nova 5T is expensive $418, and the Honor $356. Both phones are indistinguishable, which makes purchasing the Nova 5T in 2020, not a good buy. I recommend you buy the Honor 20 instead.
