Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has a stated that ladies should put on decent clothes if they want to avoid being raped.
Victoria Inyama further explains her reason for saying that is due to Nigerian authorities not prioritising the need to punish rapists or even place an absolute penalty on them.
“It’s obvious to me that the Nigerian government is not really ready to put a fixed penalty to Rape and so l beg my ladies (minus the minors or aged victims) to plsssss dress in appropriate clothing so as to reduce the trigger for the perpetrators……A lot of these Perpetrators have underlying mental health issues & being around them in certain clothing is a trigger…..sadly the victim still gets to be shamed & ridiculed, so since this government is not ready to do much, it would be wise to safeguard yourself.”
Obviously, Victoria Inyama will not the first and the last person to attribute fashion sense to rape.

People have always felt that if a lady dresses decently, she spares herself from being raped. What about people who wear floor-sweeping dresses with covered faces who still essentially get raped in the end.
Personally, I think rape has to do with more of the character of the culprit and not the victim’s dressing or appearances.
