Ghanaian-Japanese crowned Miss Universe Japan 2020

A 24-year-old Ghanaian-Japanese, Aisha Harumi Tochigi has been crowned Miss Universe Japan 2020. 

She was crowned Miss Universe Japan 2020 on Thursday during the local beauty pageant’s finals in Tokyo and will be representing Japan at Miss Universe 2020.

Aisha bested 29 other candidates to win the pageant, with Japanese-Nigerian Raimu Kaminashi and Japanese-Filipino Yuki Sonoda picking the first and second runner-up spots respectively.

She is the second Miss Universe Japan who is of mixed race, following Miss Universe 2015 Ariana Miyamoto, 26, of Nagasaki.

Aisha is of Ghanaian-Japanese heritage who has been volunteering in both countries for women’s rights along with working for children in the community.

She is not new to the world of pageantry as she had been a part of Miss Universe Japan 2019 where she was placed at the top 5. 

She believes with experience at the Miss Universe Japan 2019, she has learnt how to be confident and assured with oneself which is one of the reason why she was able to perform exceptionally well at the beauty pageant.
